Our idea was to build a hub with sensors. Sensors could be a button, a motion detector, a 3D-printer out-of-filament detector, etc. The approach is described in a blog at http://blog.myspool.com. We have working models of hubs with color displays as well as a number of sensors. We are almost done with the electronics design and are better than half way there with the software side. At the moment there are a bunch of motion, mail, and button sensors sending email and SMS notifications.
What we need help with is with marketing this. Alternatively, given the right investment, we can manufacture these as separate specific products, like a 'wireless help button' or a 'mailbox notifier' and buy marketing expertise. We are a bunch of engineers with a working model of what we envision. Please take a look at the description and let us know if you want to get involved.
