General view: Romania has a population of 22,2 mil inhabitants and a country area of 238,391 sq km. The estimations for 2007 regarding the GDP (purchasing power parity) were a 6% real growth rate and a GDP at $247,1 billion. Competition/Market - Almost 30 operators are sharing Romania's private gambling market. However, only a small number are active and own together three quarters from this market. There is one public operator, The National Lottery with its Pariloto. Tax regime for betting shops: The licenses having a validity of one year are granted against of some annual fees. For sports betting: 5% from the estimated receipts, but no less than RON 10.400; (1 Eur = 4 RON). In addition to the authorization fees, the gambling organizers pay: 1. A monthly fee ''Social stamp'': for sports betting, 10% applied over the total sale of game tickets. 2. An annually fee of 4% from the profit for the National Movies Center. 3.
