The Pros and Cons of Starting an Internet-Based Home Business
You have come across that great home-based internet business for sale and you decide it might be nice to quit your day job, get away from your boss, and go out on your own. Besides, on television, they make claims that you can set your own hours and earn thousands of dollars per month by working a few hours per week. Don't believe all the hype. Running a valid internet-based home business is hard work. When you find that internet business for sale, it is only the beginning. There are definite advantages to having an internet-based home business as well as disadvantages.
The Advantages
One advantage of buying into that internet business for sale is that now you can run it the way you like. When the business begins to do better, you can probably quit your day job and run your business much better. You can now work the hours you want. You can work until midnight and get up at 10:00 AM if you like. Of course this all depends on the needs of your client.
If you do the business right, you have the potential to make a substantial income. Employers these days are stingy with their wage increases. By running your own business you no longer have to worry about annual performance reviews and if you will get your 2% cost of living raise, which is really no raise at all.
You save on clothes, lunches, and commuting expenses. Gasoline is very expensive today and now you no longer incur that monthly expense. You do not have to follow a company dress code (thus saving money on clothing purchases). You also do not have to carry your lunch or go to expensive lunch diners.
The Disadvantages
The disadvantages of having a home-based business will soon be realized after running the internet business for sale that you purchased. The biggest reality that will become apparent is that the regular paycheck will become a thing of the past. You will not have a dependable fixed income like working a job. You can be certain that during the startup phase, things might get a little nerve-racking when your creditors want to be paid.
Another disadvantage is that you will find yourself working some pretty long hours and it will seem that you never get away from the job. Whatever you do, never release your home telephone number to your clients. Get a cell phone or additional line for business only and use that line. Your clients will call you at all hours if they think it is okay (which they will if you give them a home number). Suddenly, you will no longer be able to take a scheduled vacation and you will find yourself working 12 hours a day.
You may be good at what you do but you will find yourself having to deal with things you do not like to do such as bookkeeping and marketing your business. These other tasks include filing your taxes, handling customer complaints, dealing with family interruptions and any other problem that may arise that you can no longer pass to someone else.
